One Thing

1 Jun

One thing I ask from the Lord,
.    this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
.    all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
.    and to seek him in his temple.  Psalm 27:4

If I could distill every desire I have down to the One Thing, I’m not sure I would come up with the same base desire that David had. But I want to want to.

I want to be known for my passionate pursuit of God. For my humble and total-heart worship of Him.

This week someone through something of this sort into a conversation. I have had many conversations, but this is the one I remember.

So, maybe I am getting it. But if I am completely honest (is there any other kind of honesty?) I don’t think I own Psalm 27:4.

More than wanting to be known for this, though, I want to worship Him: to gaze on His beauty, to seek Him.

.  .  .  .

Bringing a herd of cattle in, Mitch (Billy Crystal) and Curly (Jack Parlance) have a heart-to-heart in City Slickers

Curly: “Do you know what the secret of life is? This [holding up one finger]. One Thing, just One Thing. you stick to that and everything else don’t mean s***.”

Mitch: “That’s great, but what’s the One Thing?”

Curly: “That’s what you’ve gotta figure out.”

.  .  .  .

That’s what we all have to figure out.

Ready for Sunday

I want worshiping God to be my One Thing. Wanting to want to have this One Desire is my prayer… for myself, our worship teams, and those who will be in the congregation this Sunday… and for you.

(Next week I will be involved in an outreach all week. See you June 15.)

Please let me know what you think
