Heaven Meets Earth

25 May

Do you sing, “like a sloppy wet kiss” or “like an unforeseen kiss”?

I don’t think it matters.

What does matter is that we understand there are two realities – earth and heaven, temporal and eternity, the Kingdom of this World and the Kingdom of God – and they can, and do intersect.

Several times in the Old Testament God broke into this world – at Creation, the calling Abraham, the burning bush, the calling Israel out of Egypt, and many others, culminating in the ultimate Intersection: Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man.

Jesus told His disciples that by seeing Him, they had seen the Father, and just before returning to the Father, He told His disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit.

This Intersection now runs through each believer’s heart. We are in this world but citizens of another.

When believers come together, a gathering of Intersections so to speak, His presence is magnified as we magnify Him! Much like the symbolic Candlelight service on Christmas Eve as the light in the room grows as one more candle is lit.

We have this privilege, this opportunity every time we meet together with followers of Jesus Christ.

Heaven meets earth… in me. And in you.

How He loves us!

Ready for Sunday

How would our worship be different if we all believed – and remembered – this? What would our churches be like? How would the world be different?

I’m ready to find out.

He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

Oh how he loves,
Yeah, He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves.

And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
And Heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss / like an unforeseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…

Yeah, He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us so.
